The Journey with Harijiwan
By Erin McKeever
Sat Nam!
The subconscious mind records everything. Every thing.
We are highly sophisticated beings using only a tiny fraction of what we are capable of accessing. Many aspects of our experiences may seem to go unnoticed, but do not be fooled and confuse this with unrecorded. The subconscious is constantly recording, storing and projecting its view on your world without your conscious consent. The more inventory collected in the subconscious warehouse, the more duality ferments between the two minds. Even worse is when things slip into the abyss of unconscious. There its influence remains the same, powerful and uncontrolled, but now you are completely oblivious to its origins.
When the chasm of duality widens we feel angry, despondent, confused or depressed and our ability to progress is stalled. Such stagnation leads to a narrow and rigid worldview where complacency, chance and fear preside. The subconscious mind leeches an enormous amount of energy in this weakened state making it more difficult to attain clarity, acceptance and happiness. For those drawn to a less destructive path, duality leads us to engage in yoga, meditation, chanting, the gong, White Tantric Yoga, sadhana and other cleansing techniques to sweep out the physical and mental debris that wreck havoc in our relationships, finances, health and longevity. One of the traps many people fall into is using a ‘why’ mentality to stop or slow down their practice (the subconscious prefers not to be cleansed and is often loud in its objections). It doesn’t matter why these methods work. What matters is they work! You can avoid this trap using the mantra ‘just do it.’ The actual doing or practicing allows you to create new feelings and thoughts based on experiential knowledge- I know because I have experienced- and a profound sense of truth then blossoms out of this deep inner knowing. Self-acquired truth does not need to know why. It just is.
Harijiwan explained when the conscious mind is weak, it plays a reactive game with the stronger subconscious mind, whose storehouse of unprocessed thoughts, images and feelings exceeds our scope of awareness. He stressed now more than ever, given where we are in history, anything attracted in or projected out of us will be more intense because the planetary energy field is shifting its frequency. What does this mean in practical terms? If the subconscious mind is full of pain, doubt, negativity and fear it will feel amplified and cause more trouble than you experienced in the past. The same holds true for the positive energy you generate as well. However, we discussed the fact it takes more effort to generate positive energy because we are habituated to looking for bad feelings. Yet, it takes just as much energy, if not more, to sit in pain or remain inactive as it does to do something that shifts our vibration to a new frequency. So, why do we choose to stay in the same place? A good question to ask given the answer is simple and can be addressed once it’s brought into consciousness: Fear.
We talk ourselves out of moving forward, out of change, by coming up with rationalizations for why it’s easier to stay in the same painful place because we are scared. “I’ll do it when the time is right…I’m tired so I’ll do it tomorrow…I’ll start once my new job begins…I’d rather watch TV…” Yes, change can be scary. But, is it not more frightening to think about wasting the one chance you have to make something of your life…to make something happen! Whatever the excuse you come up with, the excuse (fear) is holding you back from what you want most not the lousy boyfriend, marriage or job. To move past the fear requires we adopt an attitude that change and uncertainty are a natural part of living and can even be fun. How can our fear of change be turned into fun? Allow yourself to be imperfect by knowing you are perfect exactly where you are, move forward without regret and commit to your journey with honesty and kindness toward yourself and others. Release unproductive ideas you have of what you or life ‘should be’ and make an attempt each day to just be relaxed about everything. “Let’s face it,” said Harijiwan, “…the chances of someone coming along, touching you on the head and your problems just vanishing are slim.” You must make the effort. There are no short cuts to awareness. Harijiwan was emphatic in his reiterating, “…it is absolutely possible for you to feel good every step of the way.”
We have been given a rare opportunity to excel within a momentous transition in our planet’s history. The world may seem weary at the moment, but our ability to rise above her exhaustion and flow with the next stage of our evolution is possible if we open our minds to an entirely new way of perceiving ourselves and how we define reality. This is not the first time the earth has gone through a massive change, but it is your first time to be a participant within the context of this particular incarnation. Be it positive or negative, each of us- our thoughts, words, and actions- influence the direction the energy field will take. The energy is neutral until, like an artist with a blank canvas, you make a choice to move the brush one way or the other. But, this is no solo exhibition. It is a collaborative effort between the Universal life force that inspired your existence and the soul force that is unique to you. Think of this collaboration in terms of the world as a big screen. Your thoughts are slides and you are the projector. The frequency at which you vibrate is the result of the thoughts you have and the feelings you attach to them. Your level of clarity, wisdom and happiness, your sense of purpose and connectedness are all by-products of what you ‘vibe.’ This vibration or frequency dictates how clear, bright and vivid your slide show will look up on the big screen you call reality. Once you make the necessary shifts in your own frequency, the outside world (your reality) will reflect these changes accordingly.
A time proven way to clear the subconscious, unlock the good feelings you seek and project what you want onto the big screen is through the use of mantra and the gong. The psyche projects or vibrates in waves and, like all waves, operates on different frequencies. Mantra shifts the psyche to align with the positive frequencies and/or waves and this allows you to rise above the chaos and corruption of negativity. Harijiwan consistently utilizes mantras, the pitch and projection of his voice and the gong to awaken the conscious mind. An awakened mind means we have the ability to choose our feelings and not be dictated by the will of the subconscious. We chanted the mantra Aap Sahaaee hoaa Sachay daa sachay dhoaa…Har, Har, Har (Harijiwan recommends the version on Gurudass’ CD Circle of Light) to move us into the space where animosity, negativity and feelings of lack cease to exist. It is a simple, yet powerful meditation.
Sit in easy pose, spine straight, with your hands in gyan mudra (thumb and index finger touching) and chant Aap Sahaee hoaa Sachay Daa sachay dhoaa…Har, Har, Har with your eyes closed. Allow yourself to chant for at least 11 minutes or, better yet, chant for 31 or 62 minutes with this particular mantra. You will notice the connection immediately, but the longer you chant, the more you feel as if you are melting into the sound current to a place where security, confidence and prosperity are natural states of being. Translated, the words mean:
The Lord Himself has become my protector.
The Truest of the True has taken care of me. God, God, God.
This mantra also takes away negativity from your external and internal environment. It allows you to penetrate into the unknown without fear and accept the change that is an eternal part of all existence.
Remember, when you feel down, frustrated or at a stalemate in your life, you have become habituated to finding bad feelings. You have been taught to seek out ‘what’s wrong’ first, not what’s right. Adopt an attitude of “move on” and make a very conscious effort to look for feelings you want to have, as opposed to asking why. Practicing this approach will give you the power to choose what you want to experience and the freedom to shape your reality. ‘Why’ has its purpose, but it’s much too overrated. If misused and abused, ‘why’ keeps you locked in negative thoughts and feelings, it does not release you from them. You can either complain your way through life or enjoy it. You choose.
Many blessings,
