The Journey with Harijiwan
By Erin McKeever
Sat Nam!
We have become slaves to sex, shopping, drugs, food and all sorts of arbitrary desires. Yogi Bhajan often spoke about our penchant for enslavement saying, “…we are slaves to a way of life. We are more afraid of the truth. We have forgotten we are God.” More often than not, we recognize our human self and deny the universal essence that is much grander in scope and far more powerful than this earthly plane. A Lama once said to his student, “Do you believe in God?” His student replied, “Yes. Certainly.” The Lama probed deeper, “What if every thought that crossed your mind was considered a request by God?” The student replied, “I would still my thoughts.” “Well,” replied the great teacher, “this is truth. This is God.” Think about the implications of this statement. Your mind, your every thought, is hyper-linked at all times with the cosmos. God (a name used here to describe the Universal life force we comprise) doesn’t discriminate or judge like the human mind. God simply responds to whatever signals it receives, as if every thought was a wish come true. In turn, you are constantly receiving guidance from the Universe intended to steer you in a direction that serves your highest good. It truly is a co-creation. The stronger the vibration/thought, the more readily it's picked up on the radar. But, remember every single thought, big or small, makes its way to the big screen.
The separation you were taught to believe that inherently exists between you and God is actually non-existent. Why were you taught to believe in this separation? So others could hold power over you. If everyone walked around understanding the Laws of Attraction, Allowing and Co-creating believing they were God, it would be difficult to convince them it’s ‘my way or the highway.’ By taking full responsibility for your role as master creator, you no longer feel the world is happening to you. Life becomes an opportunity to experiment in how to manifest, transform and inspire all that you have imagined, that is, all that you have thought.
Many who read this, given our collective religious upbringings, may find this slightly offensive or difficult to accept: that you are God. In reality, the only difference between man and God is in the realization. Modern man has never fully realized that he/she is God. When we come to understand this essential, co-creative element to our existence, we rise above the limitations of the physical realm and experience the multi-dimensional spaces and places that exist outside the conventional, three dimensional reality we’ve inhabited for thousands of years. Using various techniques to achieve these ‘divine’ or merged states-- yoga, meditation, prayer, diet, music-- we connect with the infinite wisdom that leads to oneness. However, when we think about our role within this Universal context, it is important to remember our humanness and maintain equilibrium between earth and cosmos.
In order to move forward effectively utilizing the combined energy of earth and heaven, Harijiwan expressed the need to learn your personal biorhythms. How much sleep, food, meditation and exercise do you need each day in order to function at your highest capacity? Once you map out your biorhythms and understand how they directly influence your daily experience, then you can find your discipline (practice) within your particular rhythm. Within the range of your biorhythms, you will come to see that for every step you take toward outward success you must make a corresponding internal step or adjustment as well. The inner knowledge you attain needs to correspond with the outer steps gained. Harijiwan exemplified this concept in relationship to our axis and orbit.
Your axis is your discipline, your free will, your sense of self. Your life path is the axis. It is your way of orienting yourself inside your own space. Your orbit is the space that you move in, the energy field you generate and its resonance with the Universe. Yogi Bhajan said, “If your psyche is right on its axis, you will be happy whether you are rich or poor. If your psyche is right on its orbit you’ll be rich whether you are happy. If both are in harmony, you’ll be rich and happy, and a giver, like God.” From birth we are programmed to believe we can’t have both. We are told we must sacrifice one if we are to have the other. Consequently, people typically achieve in one area, but do not understand how their biorhythms, axis and orbit, and societal programming all correspond to the level of happiness or balance they will experience. Harijiwan also emphasized how we must rid ourselves of the subconscious guilt that distorts our sense of time and locks us into a belief system that does not promote this harmony. To release subconscious guilt and restore homeostasis within your axis and orbit, an effective mantra would be to chant Ek Ong Kar Sat Guru Prasaad, Sat Guru Prasaad, Ek Ong Kar.
The knowledge we acquire each week together is meant to inspire us to create and maintain some kind of practice that increases our vibratory field and connects us with the cosmic life force so we can transcend all the mind clutter that keeps us trapped in negative energy fields. The orbit of our culture does not foster happiness because unhappiness equals control equals profit. A simple way to measure how much balance you have attained would be to ask yourself: How disciplined and committed am I to my practice? How blessed am I as a result? And, how different do I feel? When we leave the physical world the total responsibility falls on us. It is up to the individual to gain freedom from lower ways of thinking, being, from pain and suffering and conventional existence. You will know you are on the right path by way of one simple truth—how much happiness you personally experience and how much love you are capable of radiating out into the world so that others may experience happiness for themselves.
Many blessings,
Erin
